Job Description: Seeking a Senior Technical Editor to lead high-impact editorial assignments supporting a research communications program. This role serves as a technical editorial expert across multiple projects, guiding publications from outline through final print, online, and web release.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead major editorial assignments, setting schedules, assigning work, and coordinating reviews and approvals.
- Perform substantive editing, copyediting, and quality control for technical reports, manuals, briefs, and other publications.
- Work with researchers and subject matter experts to make complex technical information clear and accurate while preserving its meaning.
- Check facts, references, and technical terminology, and review content for copyright compliance.
- Ensure consistency with agency guidance, the GPO Style Manual, and applicable publication standards.
- Evaluate editorial processes and results, recommend improvements that support project success, and mentor or supervise other editors as needed.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English, Journalism, or a technical field (Required)
- More than 10 years of relevant experience, including supervisory and project management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical assignments and serve as an editorial expert across multiple projects.
- Expert knowledge of the GPO Style Manual and experience managing documents through final publication.
- Transportation experience, particularly in highway or surface transportation, is preferred.
