Job Description

Residential Electrician - Panel Swaps & Heat Pump Circuits

$55-$60/hr (DOE) - Portland Metro - Full-Time - No On-Call

This job is mostly two things: panel and service swaps, and dedicated circuits for heat pumps and heat pump water heaters. If you like knowing what the day looks like before you get there, that's the pitch.

We're Resilient Retrofits, an Energy Trust of Oregon trade ally under the Energy Friendly Homes program. We make Oregon homes warmer, healthier, and cheaper to run. Almost every job we sell needs a panel upgrade or a new circuit before the equipment can land, and right now that's the bottleneck in front of our whole schedule. We're hiring an electrician to own it.

The Work

  • Panel and service swaps, usually 100A to 200A on older Portland houses
  • Dedicated circuits and disconnects for ducted and ductless heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and induction ranges
  • Load calculations, and sizing the circuit to the equipment's MCA and max overcurrent rating
  • Sub-panels, added circuits, and cleaning up whatever's behind the drywall in a 1920s house
  • Bath fan and ventilation circuits for the weatherization crews
  • Permits and walking the job through inspection
  • Coordinating day-of with the HVAC and weatherization crews so nobody's standing around

What's Different Here

  • No on-call. No 9pm no-heat calls. No weekend rotation.
  • No selling. The work is sold and scheduled before you get there, so you're not writing options on a homeowner's kitchen table.
  • Residential only, one house at a time, mostly the same two plays run well.
  • Steady year-round volume backed by Energy Trust of Oregon programs, not seasonal.

Pay & Benefits

  • Limited Residential Electrician (LRE): $40-46/hr
  • General Journeyman (J): $48-55/hr
  • Company van and company tools, so you're not putting miles or wear on your own
  • We pay your license renewal and your continuing education hours
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Company-funded HRA toward your health costs
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Small crew, known by name, and the electrical seat is yours to build out

What We're Looking For

  • Current Oregon General Journeyman (J) or Limited Residential Electrician (LRE) license, in good standing
  • Panel and service change experience on occupied homes
  • Able to size a circuit off an equipment spec sheet, not just follow someone else's plan
  • Comfortable pulling permits and meeting inspectors
  • Valid driver's license, driving to jobsites across the metro daily
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, a lot of the homes we serve are Spanish-speaking

Nice To Have

  • Heat pump, mini-split, or heat pump water heater circuits already under your belt
  • Knob-and-tube remediation on older Portland homes
  • EV charger installs
  • Prior work on Energy Trust of Oregon or other utility-program jobs

Location

Shop is at 12407 NE Marx St, Portland, OR 97230. You'll work on homes across the Portland metro, so you're driving to jobsites in the area daily.
