About the position
Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K-12 schools, serve as positive role models, and help students engage with learning. They can set their own schedules and accept assignments at schools they are excited about, working up to five days per week.
Assignments may include daily and long-term teaching roles, as well as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. and helps applicants who need assistance obtaining an Indiana substitute teacher permit. The role pays \$125 per day for daily assignments and \$135 per day for long-term assignments, with weekly paychecks. Employees are paid via W-2.
Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments. Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 school year, and applicants can begin the interview process immediately.
Responsibilities
- Teach and supervise students in K-12 school assignments.
- Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
- Serve as a positive role model and help students develop a love for learning.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- An associate degree or at least 60 credit hours.
- An Indiana Substitute Teacher Permit or Indiana Educator License; Kokua will help applicants navigate the permit process if needed.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to step in where needed for school duties.
- Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
